Jade – Years 3 & 4

The class teachers are Miss Katie Charles and Miss Rebecca Tolley. The class is supported by Teaching Assistants – Mrs Laura Clarke and Mrs Rose Alves. Jade Class is for children in Years 3 and 4.

In Jade Class we engage in a variety of exciting learning experiences which are embedded into the curriculum and use carefully chosen high quality texts, which we change on a two-year rotation.

Our Learning Approach

In Jade Class, our texts are the foundation for much of our learning. They inspire children’s reading and writing and connect with our foundation subjects, helping children see how knowledge and ideas join together.

In mathematics, we follow the White Rose scheme, which builds fluency and deep understanding. A key part of this is times tables practice, which children should complete daily at home. Strong recall supports every area of maths, from fractions to problem solving.

At the end of Year 4, there is a statutory times table test. This is an on-screen test consisting of 25 questions that check how fluently your child can remember their times tables up to 12x. This is a timed test with 6 seconds to answer each question. The children’s engagement with their times tables inside and outside of school contributes to their confidence with this.

Homework expectations

To support children’s learning in school, we ask that they complete the following at home:

  • Daily reading – please encourage your child to read every day and talk about what they are reading with you.
  • Daily times tables practice – using resources such as Times Tables Rock Stars or free websites like Hit the Button.
  • Weekly spellings – taught in school during the week and tested every Friday.
