Sustainable
Take a look at the 1 minute animation created by children from Wootton and three other schools. It's called A Day in the Spinney and it has been shortlisted in the Friends of the Earth One Minute Film Competition 2008! You can see it on You Tube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UWKkWjFOBw&NR=1
In 1992 Wootton was one of the ten Oxfordshire schools involved in the SEEDS project. Sponsored by Exxon-Mobil and with expert input from Learning Through Landscapes each school was given £1000 per year for four years to transform their school grounds into a learning environment. The whole school community took part in planning the changes and the transformation can be seen above from a rather bleak and empty space (see below).

Although care for the natural world had always been implicit in teaching, from this point Wootton was committed to creating a truly sustanable school.
Care for the planet is expressed in every aspect of school life - recognised in 2007 with a Bronze Eco-Schools Award and in July 2008 by a Silver Eco-Schools Award. The latter was gained as a result of monitoring the use of utilities, looking after the school environment, saving energy and recycling.
Through the work of the 'Eco-Team' pupils develop insights into environmental issues. Team members make a valuable contribution to the life of the school as they raise pupils' awareness of the environment and organise recycling and energy saving. (Ofsted 2009)
