Gold logoWootton St. Peter’s school holds the Gold Sainbury’s School games award for excellence in competitive school sports. Here are some of the children’s achievements.

June 2017
On 14th June, 10 children from class 4 took part in a Quad Kids competition at Tilsley Park. We were competing against children from schools all over Abingdon. Each child competed in standing long jump, 75m sprint, 600m run and howler throwing. Eight children also took part in a relay race. All our children did amazingly well – as a team we came 10th out of 16 teams.

 

 

 

 

 

 

April 2017
On 3rd April we held an inter-house hockey tournament for years 3, 4, 5 & 6. We played in teams of  6 – 8, with children from each year group in each team. Everyone tried really hard and had great fun. The joint winners were Yellow and Orange houses.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

November 2016 – Tag Rugby Tournament
Some of our junior children played in a Tag Rugby tournament in WantagIMG_0376e on Monday 7th November. They played extremely well as a team and were a credit to the school. We played 5 matches, won 3 and lost 2, coming third in our group. Congratulations to all the children, you were fantastic. Thank you to Mr McDonough and Charlie for training the team last Saturday.

 

 

September 2016 – Junior Cross Country Competition

Well done to all our KS2 children who took part in a cross country tournament at Tilsley Park last week. They were Freya, Faye, Seren, Isla, Alex E, Tyler, Sam, Darius, Dyllon, Erin, Millie, Tilly, Evie, Dilan, Charlie R, Jamie B-R and Luca.

IMG_2933Special congratulations to Faye and Freya who came 1st and 7th in the year 3/4 girls’ race and Evie who came 4th in the year 5/6 girls’ race.

 

 

 

 

July 2016 – Sports Day

Our annual Sports Day was held on the Community sport’s field on a glorious sunny afternoon. Class 4 children designed games for the whole school to participate in. Children were put into ten teams and did each of the activities. The ‘UK’ team scored the most points. Afterwards each year group took part in competitive running races.

 

April 2016 – Tennis Tournament

On Wednesday 20th April, some year 5 and 6 children went to a Tennis Tournament at Abingdon Leisure Centre. Two teams of four participated and they both did very well. The A team came 2nd out of 4 and the B team came 4th out of 4. However, overall we came 5th

March 2016Gym Competition

Fifteen children from Wootton School went to a gym competition last week at Berinsfield Gym with about 100 children from other schools. The children were split into three groups according to age and competed individually, demonstrating their skills on the vault and the floor. Thejpno 256y all did a fantastic job and really enjoyed themselves.

Megan, year 2, said “The infants watched the Juniors practice their performance and after a few minutes the judges watched them. We were all cheering each other. Then the Juniors watched the Infants. After everyone had done their routines, it was time to hear the winner, but we didn’t win.  We all tried hard anyway and had fun”.

 

March 2016 – on 10th March the High 5 High 5 teamteam went to Thomas Reade School to play in the small schools netball tournament. We played against Marcham B, St. Blaise and Sunningwell in our group. It was really fun and we all played really well. We came third – winning one and losing two games. It was great experience for our team to play in proper matches.

December 2015 – on the 4th December the junior gym club children went to Berinsfield Gym for a gym festival. The children got to try out Olympic standard equipment

including rings, a trampoline track, beams and bars. They also did some fantastic floor work on the super bouncy gym floor, which was great fun. Everyone tried all the new things and they should all be very proud of what they achieved. “We had an incredible, fun time,” said Yasmine and Erin.

November 2015 – on Monday 9th November, the tag rugby team from class 4 went to Grove rugby pitch for a schools tournament. We didn’t get into the finals but we did really well. Our first match was against St. Nicholas B and we lost 3 – 5. Secondly we played St. Nicholas A and we lost 2 – 5. Thirdly we played St. Swithun’s and won 7 – 3! Finally we played Wantage B and drew 4 – 4.

October 2015 – on Thursday 8th October 17 children from class 3 and 4 participated in a cross country run at Tilsley Park. Overall we did really well for such a small school. Everyone enjoyed it and found it very tiring. Well done to everyone who took part. Our results were:                         year 3&4 girls 13th, year 3&4 boys 7th, year 5&6 girls 8th, year 5&6 boys 14th.

July 2015 – well done to all the year 6 pupils who successfully completed their cycle training. Everyone who took the course obtained the level 2 award – this is a fantastic achievement!

June 2015 – eleven class 4 members took part in the Tilsley Park Quad Kids tournament. Each child participated in the following activities: standing long jump, 75m sprint, 600m run and vortex. We also took part in a relay race and came second! Everyone was amazing, well done.              Written by Olivia year 5

April 2015 – ten members of class 4 competed in a tag rugby competition. We did really well and came 5th out of 12, winning the plate. Our next tournament is the Finals of the Chairman’s Challenge cup in May.
