Admissions
Children get off to a flying start in the Early Years Foundation
Stage because of excellent
all-round provision. Pupils continue to achieve well and reach above
average standards in their
work and national tests by the end of Year 6. This is the result
of good teaching, a good
curriculum and strong provision for vulnerable pupils. (Ofsted
2009)
Children may start full-time at the beginning of the school year in which they reach their 5th birthday. However, the needs of individual children mean that spring and summer born children may start on a part-time basis. This would be agreed between home and school.
Parents of children approaching school age should receive the Local Education Authority booklet on admissions in September, and express their school preference on the relevant form by the date given. As Wootton is a Church of England Voluntary Aided School, its Governing body is the Admissions Authority, so applications must also be made to the head teacher.
If applications exceed the agreed admission number (currently 16), the following criteria are followed:
- Applications for children with Statements
- Children in care / looked after by a registered authority
- Children who have a sibling at the school
- Children residing within the catchment area for the school
- Children of parents who worship regularly at St. Peter’s Church, Wootton
- Children of parents who worship regularly at any church belonging to ‘Churches together in England’
- Other children that do not satisfy any of the above criteria.
A more detailed Admission Policy Statement is available from the school, together with application forms. Spplementary information can also be downloaded.
